LEWISTON — The bulk of the Pepperell Mill complex has been sold to local businessman Scott Ferland.

Business partners Bob Gladu and Ralph Sawyer owned the Lisbon Street complex for 27 years. They’ve sold the property that fronts Lisbon Street and contains most of the mill complex’s buildings, including the 162-year-old mill at 550 Lisbon St. It was bought by Ferland, owner of Almighty Waste and Ace Towing in Auburn and City Cab Co. in Lewiston.

Both Gladu and Ferland declined to say how much the property sold for.

Ferland said he plans to renovate the mill and seek new tenants for the 200,000 square feet of space he has available.

“We’re looking for tenants. Warehouse space or anybody who wants to start a business or self storage,” he said.

He will also keep the current tenants.

Gladu and Sawyer first tried to sell the complex at auction a few weeks ago, but the bids were far below the city’s appraised value of $1.2 million and lower than Gladu and Sawyer wanted to accept. They resorted to splitting the complex into three parcels. One sold at auction for $200,000. That parcel is located off Adams Avenue and contains one building, with half of that space rented to a welding company.

Gladu and Sawyer still own the third parcel, a piece of land that runs along the other two parcels. Gladu said they haven’t yet talked about what they’re going to do with that property.
