DIXFIELD — Town officials were notified this week of a petition for unionization by Teamsters Union Local 340 for several municipal employees.

Town Manager Eugene Skibitsky said the union, if established, would cover the sergeant and three patrolmen in the Dixfield Police Department, the deputy town clerk and tax collector, treasurer, assistant clerk and registrar.

Currently, only the employees in the town’s Public Works Department are served by a union.

Skibitsky said the town will challenge the petition. The state labor board will decide whether to hold a hearing on the matter.

He declined to provide additional details because of the nature of the issue.

In other matters Monday:

* Selectmen agreed to notify abutting landowners of the town’s intention to trim several trees along the Kidder Avenue side of Greenwood Cemetery.

* Selectmen also decided to delay putting several tax-acquired properties out to bid until January or February because the liens will expire on several other properties in December.

* Skibitsky told the board that the town’s state valuation will likely drop by nearly $10 million; whether or how that will affect tax rates will depend on whether most other towns in Oxford County also lost valuation.

* The contract for 1,000 cubic yards of sand was awarded to local resident, Roland Tyler, at a price of $5 per yard.
