The proposal to redefine marriage is really a proposal to redefine the human persona, causing a forgetfulness of what it means to be a man or a woman.

That is a basic injustice to men, women, children, fathers and mothers.

Marriage is truly one of the important social justice issues of this time. People cannot agree that marriage can be just anything they declare it to be: the union of one man and one woman for life. Any other union is not marriage.

Families function best when supported by loving relationships, when a mother and father are considered. Society has forgotten the essence of, and the truth about, marriage. The threats to marriage will not go away soon.

Back in the 1960s, when illegal drugs started, things changed in this country that don’t paint a pretty picture. Television and newspapers show how respect and morals have been depicted. Many people have chosen lifestyles, depicted in movies and on television, degrading to the sacrament of marriage.

People married 25 to 60 years who try to persuade others to vote for same-sex marriage cannot convince me that such a union is equal to their life together and deserving of the same privileges.

Marriage was never meant to be what they are hoping for. It should remain that way forever, as God meant it to be. People need to stay sane and respect one of the few sacraments remaining in society.

People also should remember how they all got here.
