Leavitt presents ‘The Dining Room’

TURNER — Leavitt Area High School will be presenting A.R. Gurney’s The Dining Room, a one-hour comedy-of-manners set in the dining room of an upper-middle-class family. There will be one performance at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26. Tickets are $5 at the door.

The play is built in a series of vignettes that blend together. The seven actors, Cheyenne Dulac, Brandon Clark, Jacob Lamson, Brandi Lavigne, Courtney Robarge, Jarvis Simpson and Brittany Tiner, change their ages and personalities on the fly as they play a variety of characters throughout the production.

In one scene a mother lectures her teenage daughter on duty and responsibility; in another a gaggle of 8-year-olds gather for a birthday party; in a third an aging woman doesn’t recognize her adult sons at Thanksgiving. The scenes run the gamut of emotions, but they all explore deeply human themes of compassion, humor and courage.
