1926 – 2012

WEST PARIS — F. Irene Powell, 86, died Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Ledgeview Nursing Home. She was formerly of Swett Avenue in Mexico.

Born in Auburn on July 4, 1926, she was the daughter of Cecil and Marguerite (Hinckley) Shurtleff. She attended Mexico schools. She ran the Ledgemont Boarding Home and worked for local hospitals and nursing homes. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mexico and the Peru United Baptist Church.

She was married in Mexico on Jan. 6, 1943, to Edward Powell, who survives, of West Paris. Other survivors include four daughters, Jean Oliveto and husband, Frank, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Patty Kaulback and husband, Victor, of Maple Ridge, Vancouver, Canada, Peggy Hunt and husband, Greg, of Hampden and Polly Laskey and husband, Sam, of Mexico; a son, Jeff Powell and wife, Joann, of Bradenton, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two children, Keith and baby daughter Janet; and two brothers, Wallace and Paul.
