TURNER — The Turner Center Community Church will host two concerts. The first, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, will feature well-known local pianist Jerry Ellis.

Then on Saturday, Nov. 3, Barry Wood will perform a mix of old pop classics, soft rock and traditional country music, playing electric guitar and doing vocals and instrumentals, with his own arrangements.

Wood has received more than 75 vocalist, entertainer and instrumentalist awards from the Down East Country Music Association, Maine Country Music Association and North American Country Music Association International in Tennessee.

In his first year of competition in Tennessee, he won the Little Jimmy Dempsey Memorial Award for Outstanding Instrumentalist. In 2011, he won five first-place Down East Country Music Association awards; and this past March, he received three awards in Tennessee for male country vocalist, male gospel vocalist and instrumentalist.

Wood has released six albums and, in 2007, he performed with one of his idols, the late Les Paul, at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City.

Wood’s concert will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The church is on Route 117, across from the community gazebo. Donations are appreciated for repairs and upkeep of the historic building.
