LIVERMORE FALLS — Steve Leunig, interim principal of Spruce Mountain High School in Livermore Falls, said he plans to apply for the principalship of the Livermore Falls and Jay high school campuses.

The RSU 73 board is working on a plan to have all high school students attend classes in Jay by next fall.

Leunig said whoever is hired for the position will spend considerable time working on that plan.

“I have a serious investment in the staff and students,” he said. “I want to see this come to fruition.”

The deadline for applications is Nov. 16.

Leunig was named interim principal at Livermore Falls in August 2011. Gilbert Eaton recently resigned as interim principal at the Jay campus, effective Nov. 9. He has served for just over three years.

Leunig said he will miss Eaton’s expertise.

“We had developed a professional and friend relationship,” he said.

The RSU 73 board will discuss leadership for the Jay school at their meeting Nov. 8. Superintendent Robert Wall has said it will likely be found among the current staff.

Leunig was assistant principal of Tripp Middle School in Turner and a high school administrator in Garden City, Long Island, New York.
