FARMINGTON — Selectmen confirmed the hiring of a new officer for the Farmington Police Department on Tuesday.

Stephen Gould, 24, originally from Jay, began his first full day with the department Wednesday as a patrol officer, Chief of Police Jack Peck said. He begins a 10-week field training program and will attend the Maine Criminal Justice Academy’s basic school next August, Peck told the board.

Gould has worked as a dispatcher for the State Police Regional Communications Center in Augusta. He is also a reserve officer for the towns of Jay and Livermore Falls and a part-time correctional officer at the Androscoggin County jail in Auburn.

The department has one open slot for a full-time officer.
