DEAR SUN SPOTS: My brother recently passed away, and the event brought back some long ago times.

He, Ted Theriault, and his best friend, Bill Lauvat, entered and won a contest called Youth Cavalcade, which was a talent contest. Would WCSH have the film of this event? I’m thinking the year would be the late 1950s or early ’60s.

What a treasure this would be if I could see that. They both played guitars. We had to send in postcards to vote for the boys.

Any information would be great. Thank you in advance. — Louise Richard, Rumford

ANSWER: Sun Spots emailed community relations at WCSH, but, as she feared, that tape is long gone. Many decades of film and television have been lost to history because the technology was not available to save it. Some early TV shows never even made it to film, because they were live.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have seen dozens of work-from-home assembling product ads in the papers and magazines. Are these legit? — Brian, brianroy1976@yahoo.com

ANSWER: Sun Spots would need more specific information about the ad to investigate, and she cannot make any blanket judgment on all such ads, but she can offer a couple of warning signals that they may not be legitimate, let alone profitable:

* They ask for an upfront fee of any kind, for training or supplies.

* They promise unrealistic profits or salary.

* They ask for personal information, such as your Social Security or a credit card number.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to the lady who was asking if someone might come to her house to groom her cat (Oct. 1). If she hasn’t found anyone, I’d be glad to drive her and her cat to and from the groomer’s.

There was no contact information, so I’m going through you. Thank you so much for your column. It provides an amazing service. — No Name, Lewiston

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to the person looking for home grooming for pets, there is a company called That Pink Van located in Auburn. Their phone number is 838-2547 (838-clip). My daughter has had her dog groomed by one of their people many times and likes them. — No Name via email

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am hoping someone can hep me. I’m looking for a recipe for spaghetti pie. My cookbook got lost in moving, and I don’t remember how to make it. I am 80 years old. I read your comments everyday. God bless you and your staff. — No Name, Jay

ANSWER: Sun Spots has no staff, but she appreciates your good wishes.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Does anyone have information on the citrus fruit programs, where some churches sold citrus by the case as a fundraiser. In the past it was available at the Seventh Day Adventist in South Woodstock, but they won’t be doing it this winter. Do you have any information on other places that might be doing this. It would be most helpful. — L. Berg

ANSWER: Some readers may let the column know of local options. There are many mail-order companies that sell citrus, including:

* Hale Groves,  800-562-4502, www.halegroves.com

* Floribbean Flo’s Online Store, 888-496-9888, www.floribbean.com

Sun Spots does not have any personal experience with these vendors, and there are many other options. Readers?

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for Book 1 of the Sisters of the Quilt series by Cindy Woodsmall. If anyone has it and are willing to part with it, I am willing to pay a reasonable price. Thank you. — Helen Marsh, 375-6588, marsh3609@roadrunner.com
