TURNER — The Turner Natural History Club will host a program on “Bugs and Butterflies” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1.

Jim Nutting of Turner has the reputation for having one of the most amazing collections of bugs and butterflies in the state. He houses his museum at Maine Art Glass, a Gothic-style brick church on Main Street in Lisbon Falls.

Blue morphos butterflies from South America, speckle-winged giant walking sticks for Papua New Guinea and Peruvian tailless whip scorpions are just a few of the 10,000-plus winged wonders in his collection, many displayed in glass cases as if they had just landed in their natural habitat.

Nutting will bring scorpions, tarantulas, hissing cockroaches, and African millipedes to the program.

The public is welcome, especially the younger set, to share the evening with the club in the lower level of the Leavitt Institute Building, under the Turner Public Library.

The program will begin at 7 p.m. after the club’s short business meeting. Refreshments will follow the presentation.
