LEWISTON — November at the Center for Wisdom’s Women will begin with two special events. On All Saints Day, Thursday, Nov. 2, there will be a special “Ritual of Remembrance” at 10 a.m. that will be a time for participants to honor loved ones who have died. At 1 p.m. the center will offer a discussion about “Funeral Myths.”
Other highlights will include a “Play with Clay” workshop on Tuesday, Nov. 6, a “Have Fun and Be Healthy” class led by USM nursing students on Friday, Nov. 9, the Wise Woman Cooking Group with Denise Dill on Tuesday, Nov. 13, and scrapbooking and watercolor painting on Wednesday, Nov. 21. Bingo will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 27.
The Art Van will return on Wednesday, Nov. 28, and the monthly clothes give-away will be held on Friday, Nov. 16. These and other morning programs all begin at 10 a.m.
The annual post-Thanksgiving potluck will be held on Friday, Nov. 23, and will include the November birthday party, followed by an excursion to see the “Feztival of Trees” at the Shrine Temple.
The center will sponsor a field trip to the Bates planetarium on Monday, Nov. 26, followed by a visit to the “Starstruck” exhibit at the art museum. The center will offer a workshop on astrology, astronomy and the Zodiak at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19 in preparation for the trip.
Several support groups meet regularly at the center. The center will be closed on Nov. 7 for a staff day, Nov. 12 for Veterans Day and on Thanksgiving Day.
All women are welcome and no appointments are needed. All programs are free. Personal hygiene items and oatmeal breakfasts are also available and the center has a shower available for use. Donations of full size shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, lotion, and toothpaste are needed.
