LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen will have a discussion Monday on sewer rates and the possibility that they may need to be raised to pay for repairs at the wastewater treatment plant.

The Sewer Department is doing repairs and maintenance on the plant, which is more than halfway through its lifespan.

Selectmen, in their capacity as sewer trustees, are looking at how to pay for repairs, including replacing a deteriorated in-line channel grinder and installing a bar screen. It’s estimated to cost more than $200,000, including a building to cover it.

The repair costs will be shared with Jay.

Jay pays for the wastewater flow that comes from Jay properties that are handled by the Livermore Falls plant. Livermore Falls owns the plant but the two towns share the cost of maintenance and operation based on wastewater treated at the plant.

There is a reserve account that the two towns contribute to for plant operation and maintenance.

It was about $100,000 but about $8,700 was needed to do another repair, Jay Sewer Department Superintendent Mark Holt told Jay Board of Selectmen in October.

The Livermore Falls selectmen’s meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Town Office.

Prior to discussion on sewer rates, selectmen will hold a public hearing on  the town’s General Assistance Ordinance related to updated information from the state.

Town Manager Kristal Flagg said she will also inform the board of two resignations. Fire Chief Gerry Pineau has submitted his resignation effective Dec. 31, she said. He plans to go back to school to become a paramedic, she said. The other resignation is by police Sgt. Steve Allen,  who has taken a job with the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, Flagg said.

Flagg also will remind the board that the Town Office will be closed Tuesday, Nov. 6, for voting at the Town Office.
