LIVERMORE FALLS – Town Manager Kristal Flagg told selectmen Monday that she wants to advertise for a new fire chief.

Chief Gerry Pineau of Jay, who was hired in June 2010, plans to further his education to become a paramedic. He submitted his resignation effective Dec. 31.

Flagg said she would like to have someone hired in December so that person can work Pineau before he leaves.

She also informed selectmen of Sgt. Steve Allen’s resignation that was effective Oct. 28. Allen served with the Police Department for five years, Flagg said. He started a new position of enforcement officer for the Maine Department of Health and Human Services on Oct. 29, she said.

A former Livermore Falls police officer wants to come back to serve the town, Flagg said. He was with the town for six or seven years and left on good terms. She would like to hire him, she said.

The town was preparing to advertise in the paper for a new police officer when Police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. learned of the officer’s intention. He canceled the ad but kept the free ads going on the Maine Municipal Association and Criminal Justice Academy’s websites, she said.

Steward will ask candidates if they would like to work as reserve officers, she said.

Allen also will remain as a reserve officer for the town.

Selectmen voted to accept both resignations with regret.
