OXFORD — Results for Oxford rolled in early Wednesday morning, confirming Roger Jackson of Oxford has won the Maine House of Representatives District 100 seat.

Unofficial numbers have Jackson, a Republican, beating Democrat Colin Delaney O’Neill, 2,553 to 1,751.

District 100 is comprised of Mechanic Falls, Otisfield and Oxford. The seat was formerly held by Republican James Hamper, R-Oxford, who ran for Maine Senate District 13 this year.

On Wednesday morning, Jackson called the victory “bittersweet” as Democrats gained a majority of the Maine House. “We lost the leadership,” he said. “Going in as an underdog is going to be a challenge, I’m sure. But the people have spoken so we’ll go on with the state’s business as we are going to with the business of the federal government.”

Still, he said he’s optimistic that he’ll be able to create jobs and represent his district well. “I’m going in heads up,” he said. He said he hopes in his two-year term he can be part of legislation that helps people.

He said his priorities in Augusta are education, jobs, small business and lowering taxes.

“I don’t know how that’s going to go,” he said of taxes. He said he didn’t think jobs were on the minds of Maine voters Tuesday, and that that many seemed more concerned with entitlements.

Jackson stayed up past 1 a.m. waiting for Oxford’s results. He said he spent the day between the three towns, talking to people at polling stations. He credited Mechanic Falls Republicans for working hard for him in that town.

Jackson is a member of the Oxford Board of Selectmen, and said he’ll remain on the board.
