SOUTH PARIS — Ruth A. Malcolm, 74, of Mechanic Falls, died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 4, surrounded by her family.

She was born to Carl and Anne Robert Ryder, Aug. 9, 1938, in Somerville, Mass., where she was educated, employed in the banking system and eventually met her future husband, Robert J. Malcolm, through the Universalist Church. They were married on Sept. 9, 1961, and wasted no time starting a family of their own.

Her lifelong love of music, athletics, cooking and travel were surpassed only by her love of family, friends and her extraordinary faith. Ruth’s strength and courage left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Mechanic Falls, where she sang in the choir and a member of Colfax Rebekah Lodge 27 in Mechanic Falls. She enjoyed water aerobics, spending time with family at Small Point, playing guitar and singing with her musically inclined family. She was her grandchildrens’ biggest fan as she would travel to see their games and concerts. She never turned down an opportunity to help someone in need or a chance to get together with friends. Ruth loved being surrounded by her family and many dear friends.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Robert of Mechanic Falls; their five children, Bruce and wife, Ruth, Roger and wife, Laurie, Scott, Sonya and husband, Mark and David; nine grandchildren, Ryan, Matt, Jordan, Saird, Currenn, Colby, Carston, Garrick and Tavon; three great-grandchildren, Neila, Lila and Isabella; two brothers, Wilson Ryder of Somerville, Mass., and Paul Ryder and wife, Sue, of Saco; sisters-in-law, Janet Buck and husband, Bob, of Brunswick, Marion Malcolm of Gardiner and Virginia Kane and husband, Theodore, of Wiscasset; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Jeannette; a brother, George; and a granddaughter, Annika.

The family wishes to thank all the wonderful caregivers from Beacon Hospice and Market Square Health Care Center for their compassionate care of our beloved Ruth.
