SABATTUS — Voters on Tuesday rejected a proposal for RSU 4 to contract with a private company for all student bus transportation, and rejected a question asking selectmen to draft a fireworks ordinance.

By a margin of 1,605 to 927, voters rejected the notion of private busing services for public school students. And, by a margin of 1,252 to 1,197, rejected implementation of a local ordinance to regulate the sale or use of fireworks that would be more restrictive than state law.

Voters also adopted proposed amendments to the street construction ordinance, 1,528 to 773, approved town charter amendments 1,536 to 711, and approved Board of Appeals amendments 1,442 to 818.

In other questions, voters elected Paul Gagne and Donat Fornier to serve on the Board of Selectmen, and re-elected Judy Cyr and Connie Castonguay and elected Mark Pinard to serve as trustees for the Sanitary/Water District.

Voters also re-elected Michael Gendron to serve on the Budget Committee, and filled that committee’s remaining three seats with Amedeo Lauria, Richard Lacombe and Benjamin Austin.

Voters also elected Lauria to serve on the RSU 4 Board of Directors, and re-elected William Fessenden to that board.
