LEWISTON — St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion recently received the 2012 Celebrating Excellence in Innovation Award during a recognition ceremony held at the Augusta Civic Center.
Sponsored by the Maine Health Care Association, the award is given annually to long-term care providers who have designed and implemented an outstanding program that has demonstrated success in improving resident quality of life/care, enhancing employee development and relationships or engaging community members or groups in facility life.
d’Youville Pavilion was recognized for its fall prevention program, in partnership with the MaineHealth Fall Prevention Workgroup. The collaboration was an effort to reduce incidents of falls and fall-related injuries.
To be considered, nominees must meet certain criteria, including demonstration of a best practices approach and tangible results to show that the creative ideas and practices have contributed to resident quality of life and care. Nominations for the award were submitted by long-term care facilities statewide and winners were selected by an independent panel of judges with long term care expertise.
St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion focuses on three distinct areas of care:
* Long-term residential care with daily nursing care, social activities, and pastoral services to provide individualized care to residents;
* A safe and secure living area that meets the needs of people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementia; and
* The Rehab Center, which helps patients who are discharged from the hospital but may require additional therapy or education before returning home.
