Western Class A
Thornton (9-1) at Cheverus (10-0)
Stags have won 34 straight games, looking more unstoppable each year. Thornton’s two-touchdown loss in Saco was the closest any team approached during the regular season.
Eastern Class A
Cony (8-2) at Lawrence (10-0)
Clash of styles, to say the least. The Bulldogs remain as consistent (cynics might say as exciting) as the clicking of a metronome. They simply dominate the line of scrimmage and run opponents ragged. Rams love to throw the ball, but they threw it to the Bulldogs three times in the first half of a 27-6 October loss.
Western Class B
York (8-2) at Marshwood (9-1)
It’s almost like a flashback to the early 1980s and the days of the Southern York League. That’s the last time the Hawks were in the ‘B’ division. They dominated then, and it only took them two seasons after the latest reclassification to reach the brink of another title.
Eastern Class B
Waterville (6-4) at Mt. Blue (10-0)
Preseason co-favorite meets one of the bracket busters. Waterville upset Hampden, and yes, caught a break when Belfast shocked Leavitt. Mt. Blue has survived two intense tests on its way to this surprise matchup.
Western Class C
Dirigo (8-2) at Winslow (9-1)
Cougars prevailed 32-21 in Week 2, which feels like six years ago in this highly competitive conference. Dirigo kept on building its reputation as comeback kids and road warriors throughout the season. After the first meeting, Winslow replenished its roster with players previously lost to academic probation and hasn’t lost since.
Eastern Class C
John Bapst (9-1) at Foxcroft (9-1)
The two programs that have dominated the Little Ten Conference for the past six seasons meet again. Conventional wisdom says this will be a high-scoring game, although it also features the two superior defenses in the league.
