1929 – 2012

SOUTH PARIS — David “Dave” L. West, 83, of Norway, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012 at Market Square Health Care Center.

He was born Feb. 16, 1929, in Philadelphia, son of Stanley Q. West, M.D., and Elsa Louise (Barth) West.

Dave graduated from Germantown Academy in 1946 and from Yale University in 1950, with a degree in mechanical engineering. After a career as sales engineer and an executive with SKF USA, he and his wife, Sue, moved to Norway in 1980.

After his retirement, Dave was active as a volunteer. He was a member of the Norway-Paris Kiwanis Club and an incorporator and director of the Growth Council of Oxford Hills. As a member of the Second Congregational Church of Norway he served in several capacities including the Board of Trustees and as chairman of the Board of Deacons and the Investment Committee.

Dave was a member of Norway Country Club and served as director and president of the Lakes Association of Norway. He was a member and director of the Yale Club of Western Maine and the Yale Alumni Schools Committee. He was a volunteer counselor with the Oxford Hills Chapter of SCORE, counselors to small businesses in the area, for 20 years and served as SCORE marketing chairman for many years.

Dave will be remembered as a person who loved Maine and the Oxford Hills area. He first came to Maine as a vacationer with his family at age 8.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne West; daughter, Judith Schneider; son, James West; and three grandchildren, Rebecca Schneider, Elizabeth West and Emily West.
