GARDINER — Maine folk icon Gordon Bok will perform on Friday, Nov. 16, at Johnson Hall Performing Arts Center.

A master of guitar and voice, Bok, who is based in Camden, has performed with many artists and has toured throughout the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia.

He has recorded and toured with the Bok, Muir and Trickett trio for 30 years and with his wife, harpist and singer Carol Rohl.

“One of the most moving performers I have ever seen, Bok expresses the core of his experience with his full deep voice and masterful guitar playing,” a reviewer wrote in The Village Voice.

Bok’s trademark ability to capture a way of life or define a rare moment with a sense of intimacy is evidenced not only in his songs but in his poetry and woodworking, too. He grew up near a shipyard and his bas-relief carvings celebrate the people, boats and fisheries he grew up around.

According to his website, Bok sees himself as “a ‘rememberer’: a keeper of songs and stories, a keeper of our traditions, our ways of thinking, that set us apart from others yet confirm our pace in the flow of humanity.”

The 7:30 p.m. performance is part of Johnson Hall’s Sounds Good! series. Tickets are $20/$8 for students up to age 22. Call 582-7144 or visit www.johnsonhall.org. Johnson Hall is at 280 Water St.
