Free Tai Chi for cancer patients
LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering a free Tai Chi workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. The weekly sessions will take place Thursdays through Dec. 20 from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.
Tai Chi is a widely practiced form of the ancient Chinese energetic self-care system known as Qi Gong. Tai Chi is a mind-body practice that combines gentle exercise, breathing practices, and meditation to activate self-healing mechanisms that ancient Chinese texts call the “healer within” and the “elixir of life.”
Tai Chi instructor and licensed acupuncturist Toby Sifton will introduce slow, meditative movements that can be practiced by anyone of any age which have been clinically proven to increase balance, strength and flexibility. Limited to 12 participants.
Preregistration is available by calling the Dempsey Center at (207) 795-8250, toll-free 1-877-336-7287 or online at www.dempseycenter.org.

Staying present in the midst of difficulty and change takes some conscious practice. Often we have developed reflexive patterns of avoidance, distraction or reaction.
Bereavement Coordinator and Inter-Religious Chaplain for Beacon Hospice Angela Lutzenberger will introduce you to Mindfulness Meditation, a tool and practice that helps us recognize and feel our experience in each moment with nonjudgmental attention. It is not being “meditative” or “spiritual,” it is about truly letting ourselves be exactly who we are. Each session will consist of Mindfulness instruction, group practice and discussion.
Preregistration is available by calling the Dempsey Center at (207) 795-8250; toll-free 1-877-336-7287 or online at www.dempseycenter.org.
