MECHANIC FALLS — Roy J. Caire, 80, of Mechanic Falls, died at home surrounded by his family, Thursday, Nov. 8. He was the husband of Tammy A. (Austin) Caire.

He was born in Sacramento, Calif., Dec. 24, 1931, a son of the late John R. and Valonda M. (Fiddely) Caire. He grew up in Sacramento and attended local area schools, graduating from McClutchy High School. He moved to Mechanic Falls in 2004, a year after marrying Tammy.

While in California, Roy worked for Campbell Soup; he was also a master carpenter and built gun racks for the police departments among other things.

He enjoyed fishing; however working with wood was his passion, building anything and everything.

Besides his wife, Tammy Austin-Caire, he is survived by a sister, Anita Jobes of Texas; two daughters, Katherine M. Markofer and her husband, Tom and Patricia D. Caire, both of Sacramento, Calif.; a son, Dennis M. Caire of Georgia; six stepchildren, April, Chrystal, Rocky and Amanda Lucas and Tabitha and Michael Mecham; 15 grandchildren, Timmy, Kimberly, Joey, Natalie, Raiquan, Victoria, Alyssa, Trinity, Zachary, Royalle, Savannah, Isaiah, Wyatt, Ben and Matthew; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also the father of the late John R. Caire, who died May 7, 1977; and the brother of two brothers, Ken and Lawrence of California.
