‘Give Thanks In All Things’

PARIS — “Give Thanks In All Things” is the title of Anita White’s sermon at the First Universalist Church on Pine Street for the Sunday, Nov. 18, worship service. Music for the 10 a.m. service is under the direction of Donna Hurd and Sunday School is under the direction of Renee Wales. Coffee and fellowship will follow the service and all are welcome. Childcare is available.

Later in the day Music For A Sunday Afternoon will take place at 2 p.m. with a variety of music including selections from “Sound of Music” and “Dr. Zhivago.” There will be organ, piano, flute, guitar and voice. The concert will be followed with refreshments. There is no charge, but donations will be accepted at the door. The First Universalist Church is wheelchair accessible.

Spurrs Corner food pantry hours

OTISFIELD — The food pantry at Spurrs Corner Church, Route 121, will be open Tuesday, Nov. 20. The pantry is open the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 10 a.m. to noon. For information call 583-4780 or 627-4329.

Fish & Game meeting change

PARIS — The Nov. 21 meeting of the Norway-Paris Fish & Game Association has been canceled. Members wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving Day shared with family and friends.

The Dec. 19 meeting potluck supper will be the usual Thanksgiving meal. Those scheduled to bring food in November will be bringing those items to the December meeting. The meeting will be at the clubhouse, 744 Buckfield Road, South Paris. Supper served at 6:30 p.m. with meeting to follow.

Float participants, crafters needed

BRIDGTON — The Bridgton Festival of Lights committee is seeking submissions for this year’s parade floats as well as the Holiday Craft Fair to be held at the Town Hall. The event, now in its 10th year, will take place throughout downtown Bridgton from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1.

Community Thanksgiving

NORWAY — Residents of the Oxford Hills community are invited to have dinner with their friends and neighbors at the community Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, Nov. 22. The dinner with all the Thanksgiving favorite foods and dessert will be held at noon at St. Catherine of Sienna Church on Paris Street.

The dinner is co-sponsored by St. Catherine of Sienna and Christ Episcopal churches. Reservations are recommended to help with the planning. Call 743-2606.

Supper aids Legion, Fire Dept.

LOCKE MILLS — A public supper at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Legion Hall, 595 Gore Road, will support programs of the American Legion and the Greenwood Fire Dept.

Menu is baked beans, chop suey, cole slaw, bread, coffee, tea, punch and dessert. Adults $7; children under 12, $3.

Wreath sale during parade

NORWAY — The annual sale of fresh, handmade Christmas wreaths will be held on Saturday, Nov. 24, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Second Congregational Church, UCC, 205 Main St. The public is invited to purchase brightly decorated evergreen wreaths, by Rusty’s Wreaths and Sue Goulet.

DUV group to meet Nov. 28

NORWAY — The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-65 Hannah F. Richardson Tent 19 will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the home of Marilyn Jones.The first nomination of officers will take place. Plans are being finalized for the Christmas party and second nomination of officers for the new year.

The last meeting was Oct. 24. Marge Nihan won the mystery prize.

Legion selling Christmas bulbs

LOCKE MILLS — Jackson Silver Unit 68, ALA is having their annual Christmas Bulb sale. The bulbs are $3 each and may be purchased in memory or honor of a loved one. Nezinscot Valley Holiday Fair

BUCKFIELD — The Nezinscot Valley Holiday Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Buckfield High School.

Photos with Santa begin at 10 a.m. Lunch items will include hot dogs, chowder, Italians and fried dough.

Live musical performances throughout the day. Shop local with more than 90 crafter and vendor booths.

Sponsored by the Nezinscot Valley Music Boosters. All proceeds from the event go to music and performing arts enrichment and events for Nezinscot Valley schools (Hartford-Sumner Elementary School and Buckfield Jr./Sr. High School) and the community.

Clothing Center open Dec. 1, 15

HARTFORD — Hartford Community Church Clothing Center will be open on Saturday, Dec. 1, and Saturday, Dec. 15, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

The Clothing Center is located directly opposite the church.

Chinese auction for youth ministry

OXFORD — The Resistance Ministries, a nonprofit youth ministry, will have their fifth annual “A Christmas to Remember” Chinese auction Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Oxford Recreation Building, King Street.

The auction is open to the public. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. with ticket drawing starting at 2 p.m. There will be hundreds of new items along with a dollar table, 50/50 raffle, grab bags and food and drink available for purchase.

Ticket prices at the door start at 100 tickets for $20. There are advance ticket deals, while they last, starting at 200 tickets for $20, 300 tickets for $30, 400 tickets for $35 and 500 tickets for $45. The advance ticket deals are limited to the first 20 people who buy their tickets in advance.

PARIS — An Advent fair will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 34 Buckfield Road.

There will be Rada knives, food, Christmas decorations, a white elephant table and raffles. Coffee and snacks will be served.

Auction benefits AG Society

PARIS — A Take a Chance Auction to benefit Oxford County Agricultural Society will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, at Oxford Hills Middle School, Pine Street.

Doors open at 3 p.m., auction starts at 5. More than 200 hundred items (tools, Christmas items), 50/50 raffle, dollar table items and refreshments will be available.

Craft/yard sale, food drive at Grange

NORWAY — A craft/yard sale and food drive will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 1 and 2, at the Grange Hall, Whitman Street.

Local crafters and yard sale vendors will offer items for sale. Raffles, lunch and snack food will be available.

Boxes will be available for contribution of nonperishable food items for local food pantries.

The Grange Community Service Committee is hosting the event to help fund its local projects.

Tickets available for Rotary meal

BETHEL — The Rotary Club of Bethel will host its annual country breakfast from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Ordway Hall, Gould Academy, Church Street.

The annual event benefits community projects and scholarships. The menu will include pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, homefries, breads and beverages.
