PARIS — The students who brought the six-course authentic French dinner this fall are now planning to bring to Oxford Hills an exotic Moroccan/Tunisian/Algerian dinner with belly dancing following.

The dinner, a multi-course affair, will feature the delicious cuisine of the Maghreb, North Africa, which has been influenced by many cultures – Arab, Mediterranean, Bedouin, Spanish and French, to name a few. There will be many tastes, including cumin, coriander, cinnamon, orange-flower water, lemons, olives and dates.

Students of French at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, some dressed in Middle Eastern attire, will be serving the dinner. Guests will see Middle Eastern decor, hear Arab music and smell the wonderful spices of a dinner of the Maghreb.

The dinner will start with servers pouring rosewater over the hands of guests as another server holds a basin underneath the hands.

Afterward, Nevaeh Dance Company will delight guests with belly dancing.

The dinner and belly dancing will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at the First Congregational Church in South Paris. The event is a fundraiser for students from OHCHS who are planning to go to France next spring. The cost is $15 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Tickets are available in advance at Books N Things on Main Street in Norway; early purchase is suggested as the event may sell out.
