DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for a place for my family to experience a Christmas sleigh ride. I don’t know any place in the Lewiston/Auburn area that does these. Do you know of anywhere local that provides this during the holiday season? Thanks very much! — Mommy of Twins

ANSWER: First you’d better hope for snow!

When Sun Spots had this question last January, several people wrote in to say their farms offered sleigh rides, including:

* DiAne Ward, Deepwood Farm, Bethel, 824-2595. Deepwood Farm, also does the sleigh rides at the Bethel Inn on Saturday nights, 824-2175

* Darcy Winslow, High View Farm, belgian1@myfairpoint.net, 595-1601, www.high-view-farm.com

* Colleen and Jeffrey Winslow, Northern Heights Farm, Waterford northernheightsfarm@yahoo.com, www.northernheightsfarm.com and on Facebook at Sleigh Rides in Maine @ Northern Heights Farm

Also, the World Greatest Sleigh Ride. which benefits the Pine Tree Society, was held last February. Sun Spots does not know if it will be held again this year.

If any other readers have information, please let Sun Spots know.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thanks for all the information you’ve provided throughout the year!

Will there be a Christmas tree lighting event and parade in Lewiston-Auburn this year? Can you print the date and time? I can’t seem to find anything about it online. Thank you. — No Name, Lewiston

ANSWER: On Friday reporter Scott Taylor had a story in the Sun Journal that said the Parade of Lights, which culminates in the lighting of Christmas trees and a menorah, will be Nov. 26 (rain date Nov. 28).

You can read that story and see a map of the parade route at http://tinyurl.com/awcezad.

The Auburn-Lewiston tree lightings will be at 6 and 6:30 p.m., respectively.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for a Bradford celestial light motion star revolving Christmas tree topper. It measures 11-inches tall, and when on the tree it shines colored lights on the wall and ceiling. It has a multi-color cylinder that rotates inside the plastic globe when the light bulb warms the spinner.

We had one growing up, and my sisters and I used to love watching it light the ceiling. It has sentimental value to me. I would be willing to purchase if not too expensive. Thank you. — Christine, vcmartin4@roadrunner.com

ANSWER: Sun Spots found some online at vintage/collector sites and eBay.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Store Next Door project at Lewiston High School is once again in need of support from our community friends, neighbors, businesses and faith-based groups. We will be opening our annual giving tree on Nov. 16, this year with a little twist.

The giving tree will be adorned with gift tags, each representing a gift card and suggested donation amount. For instance, there will be tags for $5.35 fast food cards, $10, $15 and $25 grocery tags, LHS yearbooks, phone cards, cab vouchers, movie tickets and cards to clothing stores, just to name a few.

By focusing on matching gift cards to appropriate youth and families experiencing homelessness and food insecurity, we will better be able to grant wishes and bring smiles to folks during these very downtrodden times. Our goal is to touch more than 100 lives this coming holiday season.

Stop by Lewiston High School between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on school days to get your gift tag requests. Deadline for returning gift cards to LHS is Friday, Dec. 14.

Please call Jamie at 795-4190, ext. 2215, or email jcaouette@lewistonpublicschools.org for more information, or to set up a time to tour. Donations may also be mailed to 156 East Ave., Lewiston ME 04240. It takes a village to raise a child. — Mary Seaman, mseaman@lewistonplublicschools.org
