OXFORD — The Oxford Hills School District Board of Directors voted this week to form a committee to develop a vision for SAD 17.
The committee will use an $8,000 gift received last month from Bob and Sandra Bahre of Paris, Maine, and Alton, N.H., to hire a facilitator, Superintendent Rick Colpitts said.
Colpitts said he is asking for members to serve on the committee, which will begin its work in January.
Earlier this year, Colpitts presented a plan to the school board to create a mission statement and a vision for the district. At that time, he said the plan would promote the current district strengths, such as quality of education, and would incorporate changes that have taken place in education over the past 10 to 20 years. Those include laws that created national education standards, charter schools, supervisor evaluations and student assessments.
The groundwork was laid during the last school year through a series of some 30 forums with community leaders, parents, teachers, students and others.
