CARTHAGE — Scottish fiddler Chris Stout, featured soloist on the soundtrack for Pixar’s fantasy/adventure film “Brave,” and harpist Catriona McKay will give three shows in Maine in December.

First up will be a concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at St. Lawrence Arts in Portland; then at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center; and at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Unity College’s Center for the Performing Arts in Unity.

Andrew Harris with the Portland Stage Company will present “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” at the Skye Theatre performance.

From Fair Isle in the Shetland Islands, Stout is a charismatic fiddler player and  composer of international renown. With a diverse background, deeply rooted in both traditional and classical styles, he has collaborated with musicians across the globe.

Whether as a solo artist, a member of Fiddlers Bid, leading his own quintet or performing with McKay, Stout continues to innovate within traditional and contemporary musical circles.

McKay pushes the harp, one of Scotland’s traditional instruments, to its limits. Through her composition and performances worldwide, she is widely recognized for her innovative style and daring rhythmic use of the harp.

The duo, which has performed for 15 years, recorded its first CD, “Laebrack,” in 2005. Its latest album, “White Nights,” was released in summer 2010 to rave reviews.

Tickets to the concerts, put on by New England Celtic Arts, are $20 at the door. For reservations, call St. Lawrence Arts at 775-5568; Skye Theatre at 562-4445; or UCCPA at 948-7469. St Lawrence Arts is at 76 Congress St., Portland; Skye Theater is at 2 Highland Drive, Carthage; and UCCPA is at 42 Depot St., Unity.
