BETHEL — The Mahoosuc Community Band will present its holiday concert at 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 9, at the West Parish Congregational Church.
The band has added new selections, including “Flourish for Wind Bands,” by R. Vaughan Williams, featuring the trombone section and French horn; and “Benny Goodman: The King of Swing,” arranged by Paul Murtha.
Also on the program are traditional favorites: “A Christmas Portrait,” arranged by Jerry Nowak; “A Christmas Festival,” by Leroy Anderson; “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas;” and “Silver Bells.”
In addition, Jeff Simmons’ humorous “Cowboy Christmas” and Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride” will be performed.
There will be refreshments following the concert. Donations help with music and instrument purchases and ongoing costs to run the volunteer community band.
The band, which has performed in the Bethel area for 20 years, includes people of all ages from Hanover, Rumford, Dixfield, Waterford, Woodstock, Greenwood, Bethel, Albany and South Paris.
The group rehearses 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Monday nights at West Parish Congregational Church. Rehearsals start Jan. 7, after Christmas break.
