WILTON — A Jay man was thrown from his vehicle during a collision at the intersection of Route 2 and Maxwell Road on Tuesday afternoon.

Oneil “Neil” Bourgoin, 78, of Macomber Hill Road in North Jay was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington and transferred to another hospital, a nursing supervisor said. Calls to hospitals in Lewiston and Portland did not turn up anyone by that name Tuesday night.

Police said he suffered a serious injury in the crash.

Bourgoin was attempting to cross Route 2 from Maxwell Road when police believe he didn’t see a pickup truck traveling east on Route 2, Wilton police officer Chad Abbott said.

The truck was driven by Alan Orcutt, 41, of Belgrade Lakes, who was heading home from his work at J.D. Irving in Dixfield, Abbott said. He was driving a 2008 Ford F150 owned by the company.

The setting sun may have hindered Bourgoin’s view when he looked for traffic coming from the west, Abbott said. The accident occurred about 3:45 p.m.

Orcutt spotted Bourgoin starting to move into the intersection and tried  to swerve around him, but their vehicles collided, sending both into a spin, Abbott said.

Bourgoin was not belted into his 1999 Subaru and was thrown out during the crash, Abbott said.

Orcutt was wearing a seat belt and received a cut to his hand and was treated at the scene.

Wilton and East Dixfield fire departments assisted Wilton Police Department with road cleanup and traffic control. Franklin County Deputy Nicholas Zecher also helped at the scene.
