TOPSHAM — The Edith Jones Project is determined to help people “Swing into the Holidays” with its concert on Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Orion Performing Arts Center.

The 17-piece, all-women big band will present time-honored favorites, with solo performances and its usual antics — jokes, festive props and impromptu dancing in the trumpet section.

Members of the band, formed in 2003 by Alison Jones, are mostly music educators in Maine’s public and private elementary, middle and high schools, plus faculty from Bowdoin College, Bates College, the University of Maine and the University of New Hampshire.

The Mt. Ararat Jazz Ensemble will also perform a few songs. Allen Graffam, Mt. Ararat band director and professional trumpeter, will sit in with the big band on a Christmas anthem.

Tickets to the 7 p.m. concert are $10 general admission, $8 for seniors and $5 for students. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Mt. Ararat music department. For tickets, call 838-0700 or visit Music ‘n’ Moore in the strip mall just before Walmart in Brunswick. The Orion Performing Arts Center is  next to Mt. Ararat Middle School. For more information, call 798-9201 or log on to www.edithjonesproject.com.
