BETHEL —.The Senior College Players of Western Mountains Senior College will perform two holiday plays Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7 and 8.

The first performance is at 7 p.m. Friday at the Mason House Exhibit Hall. On Saturday, performances will be at 1 and 7 p.m.  There is no entrance fee, although donations are welcome.

Lynn Arizzi, director of the performance and of the Senior College Players program, said they’re performing “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” by Dylan Thomas and “Memories of a Wonderful Life” by Jonathan M. Zaley.

“I’ve always loved ‘A Child’s Christmas,’” Arizzi said. “Plus, rather than one person reading the lines, we’re having the whole group read different parts of the play.”

Arizzi said she is especially looking forward to their performance of “Memories of a Wonderful Life” since it will involve participation from the audience.

“For certain roles, the lead will go into the audience and find somebody to act out a particular scene while the actors read the lines,” Arizzi said. “It really is a lot of fun.”

Normally, the Senior College Players do a fall production around Thanksgiving, Arizzi said, but this year, they pushed it back so they could do a Christmas themed performance.

The Senior College Players class comprise 11 students, some who Arizzi said have been in her class for six years and others who have just begun.

“Our group has done an excellent job with each performance,” Arizzi said. “Last spring, we did a performance of ‘The Butler Did It’ that sold out.  We’ve done dinner theater performances and regular productions. A lot of our performers were here for all of that.”

Arizzi said she’s also excited about the space where that the troupe is performing.

“This year, for the first time, we’re doing the performance in the Mason House Exhibit Hall, which is part of the Historical Society,” Arizzi said. “It’s a smaller venue, but through my whole career, I’ve loved a challenge.”

Arizzi added that for “A Child’s Christmas in Wales,” she’ll likely arrange the actors around the room so they surround the audience, giving a more inclusive feel to the performance.

As for plans for the Senior College Players following the Christmas performances, Arizzi is focused on one thing: vacation.

“I can’t wait for it,” Arizzi said with a laugh. “By the time this is over, I’ll be exhausted. A vacation will be very welcome.”
