Telstar art sale, jamboree

BETHEL — Telstar Middle School students will present the ArtReach Jamboree & Student Art Sale from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Telstar Auditorium and Cafeteria. Snow date is Dec. 7.

The free event will feature a student art exhibit and sale, a showcase of service-learning projects connecting youth and elders and a jamboree concert focusing on the musical expression of older generations.

In the fall, advanced art students chose to focus this year’s ArtReach service-learning project on helping and working with senior citizens in the area. Students have been working on oral history interviews and related visual art projects, they have been investigating issues important to seniors and they have been working with adults and elders on several creative collaborations. In addition, the Bethel LEGO League group has also been working on a service-learning project to benefit seniors. These efforts, and more, will be showcased at this event.

The concert will begin at 6 and will feature special performances from local professional musicians including Jewel Clark, Richard Felt & Friends, Denny Breau and more. Refreshments will be provided and all proceeds from the event will benefit the Oxford County Meals on Wheels program.

W.P. Library to hold lighting

WEST PARIS — The West Paris Library will soon be glowing every evening, outlined with sparkling white lights and a big red heart in the front window. The first lighting of this winter season will be on Friday, Dec. 14, at 6:15 p.m. All are invited. This year the library is celebrating those who helped make the dream of a more spacious library a reality.

Following the illumination of lights, if the weather permits, there will be horse drawn wagon rides for the young and young at heart. Inside, holiday cookies and hot, mulled cider will be served. There will be songs by the Agnes Gray Explorers and a sing-along of the season’s favorites with Jim Burke playing the keyboard.

“The Little Castle with the Big Heart,” as the library is known locally, continues to thrive with many new patrons, art displays of local artists and a variety of children’s and adult programs.

For more information call the library at 674-2004. Library hours are Monday and Friday 1:30 to 6 p.m., Wednesday 1:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
