DEAR SUN SPOTS: I read in the Dec. 3 paper that someone is looking for a Christmas Day dinner they can work at. In Livermore Falls we will be having our annual Community Christmas Day Dinner at the American Legion Post Hall on Reynolds Avenue, Livermore Falls, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

This is a free dinner that relies on donations from the local communities, so we will be looking for volunteers to bake pies and cookies, and donations of hams, turkeys, potatoes, squash, stuffing and gravy mixes, cranberry jelly and rolls.

If you would like to cook or make a donation, please call Pam at 897-3072.

If you want to work on the dinner, please call Karen at 897-3593.

In order to help us plan, if you want to attend the dinner, also please call Karen and leave your name and how many will be attending. Meal delivery is available in the local area. — Karen via email

DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Nov. 27 a reader requested Graziano’s recipe for chicken cacciatore. I am the archivist for the Lisbon Historical Society and have that recipe from 1997 for her.

Chicken cacciatore (serves four)

2 pounds boneless, skinless breast of chicken

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon pepper

3 tablespoons olive oil

1 large onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, finely chopped

1 14-ounce can peeled Italian tomatoes, drained and chopped

1/2 cup white wine

1 large green pepper, cut into one-inch strips

1 pound mushrooms, sliced

1 teaspoon fresh parsley

1 teaspoon fresh basil

4 ounces grated Romano cheese

Rinse chicken and pat dry. Season with salt and pepper, then lightly flour. In skillet heat 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil. Add chicken and lightly brown. Remove chicken. Add remaining olive oil to skillet, then add onions and garlic and saute for 4 to 5 minutes. Add chicken, tomatoes, wine, peppers, mushrooms and herbs. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for one half-hour. Reseason if necessary. Add Romano cheese. To serve, ladle over pasta or rice.

Anyone who is interested in visiting our archive is welcome. We are open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursdays at 18 School St., Lisbon Falls. — Dorothy Smith, Lisbon Falls

DEAR READERS: On Monday, Sun Spots published a letter from a central New York reader asking about the availability of Nuyens Wisniowka, a cherry cordial formerly bottled by White Rock Distilleries.

Sun Spots received more information from Joe Werda, director of operations at Jim Beam Maine, who said that the Nuyens product line was sold by White Rock to Sazerac Co. Inc. of New Orleans (home of the Sazerac cocktail, considered to be America’s first cocktail).

“Sazerac is currently finishing a redesign of the packaging and expects to have product back in distribution in the near future,” Werda said.

Cheers!
