LIVERMORE — Selectpersons voted 3-2 Monday to appoint Kurt Schaub treasurer to fill the remainder of Cathy Lee’s term, Chairman John Wakefield said Monday night.
Wakefield, Tom Berry and Wayne Timberlake voted in favor of the appointment, while Peter Castonguay and Megan Dion voted against.
Before the vote, selectpersons voted 2-3 against appointing Melissa Gilbert of Livermore as treasurer. Dion and Castonguay were in favor; Berry, Timberlake and Wakefield were opposed.
The board interviewed three of the four candidates who applied for the position.
Schaub was treasurer for a decade before he lost his bid for another two-year term to Cathy Lee in June by a 226-219 vote. Lee resigned from the position Oct. 23.
Maine law requires the Board of Selectpersons to appoint a treasurer to fill a vacancy, Wakefield said.
Schaub was appointed acting treasurer in October until interviews were held.
