Leaders of the Sturdivant Island Tuna Tournament recently donated $35,000 to five Maine community colleges, including Central Maine Community College in Auburn. The tournament is held out of the Spring Point Marina in South Portland every August and has raised a total of $335,000 for Maine community colleges since the inaugural event in 1998. The SITT’s eventual goal is to establish $100,000 endowments at all seven of Maine’s community colleges. The tournament has also donated funds to a number of charitable and nonprofit organizations.
