BETHEL — Selectmen on Monday evening will review an amendment to the administration ordinance that would allow the board to create an oversight committee for the Bingham Forest management plan.
During a presentation by private land consultant Jerry Bley on Nov. 5, Bley recommended that the town create an additional town committee responsible for Bingham Forest oversight.
According to Bley’s plan, the board would be required to create the Bingham Forest Authority, which would consist of “five members appointed by selectmen” who would ideally “have expertise in water quality, timber management, recreation development, wildlife preservation and local tourism economy.”
Town Manager James Doar said that before the Bingham Forest Authority can be officially created, amendments have to be made to the administration ordinance.
“Basically, what I did was borrow the language verbatim from the Airport Authority and changed the name to Bingham Forest Authority,” Doar explained. “At the selectmen’s meeting on Monday, I’ll present the amended ordinance before them, and they’ll read it, discuss it, see if there’s any edits needed, and figure out if it works.”
The board will also make appointments for a handful of committees, including the Budget Committee and the Planning Board.
“We have a couple of spots to fill in each one,” Doar said. “Some of the incumbents reapplied for their positions.”
In addition, selectmen will also hold a public hearing regarding liquor license and entertainment permit renewals for Sunday River Brewing Company.
