“Lewiston is behind the times in one matter, but not behind other cities in the same matter. That is the display of amusement notices long after the event has taken place,” says a local citizen. “Advertisements of football games, the cross country run, Judge Lindsey’s lecture and other entertainments, given and forgotten, can be seen in windows on most any business thoroughfare. Business men and shop girls on their way to and from work hesitate before shop windows to read an attractive notice, then walk away in disgust when they come to the date line, which might be anywhere from a month to a year old.
50 years ago, 1962
Auburn Ward Four Councilman John W. Duddy threw an unexpected curve at his fellow councilmen last night, but lost out in a bid to have distinctive markings on the city-owned car used by City Manager Woodbury E. Brackett. Duddy proposed that effective Jan. 1, 1963, the vehicle assigned to Brackett display “a special license plate bearing the letters A-U-B-U-R-N.”

The first major snowstorm of the season has ski operators in Auburn bracing for a big weekend. Snorada Ski Touring Center, the only cross-country touring center in the Twin Cities, opened four of its five miles of trails Thursday after a 20-hour storm dumped seven inches of snow in Lewiston and Auburn, while Lost Valley Ski Area is aiming for a Saturday opening.
