LEWISTON — Lewiston Microcinema will host an evening of Maine-made films on Thursday, Dec. 20, at She Doesn’t Like Guthries.
The experimental and documentary shorts, to be shown beginning at 8 p.m., are as follows:
* “Muscle Car,” 3 minutes, David Meikeljohn: A dance-fueled music video for the song “Muscle Car,” by Portland-based hip-hop artist Sontiago, featuring Therese Workman. The video follows two rival gangs that settle their disputes with dance moves as weapons. Shot entirely in Maine with a cast of friends and family, “Muscle Car” is a testament to the power of solidarity in the face of mega punks.
* “The Peloton Project,” movie trailer, 3 minutes, Ramsey Tripp: This film looks at cancer survivorship through the lives of 40 cyclists on a 2,500-mile journey from Calgary, Alberta, to Lewiston. The riders had just 10 days to complete the trip. An inspiring film about celebrating life.
* “Les Soeurs Grise,” 30 minutes, Mary T. Rice-DeFosse: A history of the radical women who started their own free health-care facility in Lewiston to serve the poor.
* “Yayasan Palung: Saving the people to save the forest,” 12 minutes, Rob Little: This video explores the destruction of the rainforest and the difficulties that Bornean people face not only surviving, but protecting the forest they so dearly love.
