PORTLAND — Ryan Flaherty and The Burners will bring their trademark brand of gypsy Americana music to One Longfellow Square on Saturday, Jan. 5.

Flaherty was nominated for best musician, best live show and best band for the 2012 Spotlight Awards.

The Burners, formed in 2011 as a vehicle for guitarist/singer Flaherty, is known for its high-spirited, indie folk sound.

Flaherty wrote a handful of tunes rooted in American folk and gypsy jazz styles, and began playing them with jazz and tango guitarist Mike Arciero and bassist Duane Edwards of Portland. This mix of styles became the backbone of The Burners’ original sound. Soon after, accordionist Laura Balladur, vocalist Jennie Backstrom and violinist Phil Bloch joined the band.

On Feb. 26, The Burners recorded their “Here Comes Everyone” album in a matter of three hours at Acadia Studios in Portland. It was accepted into Pandora Radio’s genome by the end of March.

The concert will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 advance/$15 at the door. One Longfellow is at 181 State St.
