FARMINGTON — Franklin County commissioners voted Tuesday to award the job of building a clerk’s bench at the Farmington County Superior Courtroom to Western Maine Screen Doors Co. of New Sharon.

The price is $4,875.

County custodian Greg Roux received three written quotes and one verbal one, Jeffrey Henthorn, director of court facilities, said. The verbal quote was discarded, Henthorn said, because Roux told the person that it needed to be submitted in writing and it wasn’t.

Taylor Made Homes Inc. of Wilton quoted $6,957 for the job, and RTG Furniture of New Sharon quoted $6,750.

The bench and top will be made of cherry wood. It will have space for two clerks to work and two computer monitors.

The current bench has 36 inches of workspace and the top is slanted, prohibiting computer monitors on it.

Henthorn said there will be more costs associated with the bench, including placing a piece of Kevlar in the bench. He has budgeted for them, he said.

The Judicial Branch will reimburse the county for the project.

Commissioners also agreed to hold tax abatement appeal hearings for New Vineyard residents Tellis Fenwick Sr. and David Hargreaves on Tuesday, Jan. 15, in the commissioners’ office. The hearings are scheduled for 9 a.m. and 9:45 a.m.

A third tax abatement appeal has been submitted from the Lambert Family Trust for property in New Vineyard.

New Vineyard has had a property revaluation done, Town Clerk Julie Magoon said.
