ANSWER: The American Kennel Club proves some information on this topic at http://tinyurl.com/c43xxoo. It appears to indicate that you would need some paperwork for standard registration, but another option is the “Purebred Alternative Listing/Indefinite Listing Privilege. PAL/ILP is designed to allow dogs that are ineligible for registration, but are distinguishable as a member of an AKC registrable breed, to participate in certain AKC events.”

The AKC goes on to list a number of reasons a purebred dog would be ineligible for registration or the owner might choose to apply for a PAL/ILP instead of registering the dog:

* Dog is from a rescue group or shelter

* Owner never received papers from the breeder

* Incomplete paper work

* Owner does not want to pay late fees

* Dog registered with another organization ineligible for AKC registration

In order to enroll in the alternative registry, a dog must be spayed or neutered, so this option won’t do you much good if you want to breed, but it might allow you to show the dogs in certain events.

Unless you want to show or breed the dogs, the time and expense of trying to register them may not be worthwhile.

ANSWER: Sun Spots isn’t a TV watcher, so she can’t be sure this commercial is on Channel 8 and thus the one you mean, but Traveler’s Insurance has a “Good Job” commercial online. It features a shaggy white dog doing good deeds around the house, such as recycling, loading the dishwasher, etc.

At wiki.answers.com it says that the featured canine is a mixed breed rescue dog named Chopper.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: What is the name of the woman who introduces the evening news on Channel 6 by saying: “You are watching WCSH Channel 6 news at 5” or at 5:30, as applicable. Thank you. — Joe via email

DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Oct. 1 someone wrote asking about Priscilla Turner hand-hooked rugs made in Turner. I have two that have been down 62 years at my house and used at my mother-in-laws before 1950. I hope the lady writing the book will see this.

I also would like to know the actor’s name in the ad where he is talking to an M&M candy about her being chocolate inside her heart and brain. — No Name, 784-6852

As for the actor in that commercial, thanks to Sun Spots’ colleague Ernie, she knows that it is telenovela star William Levy.

Telenovelas are often referred to as Spanish-language soap operas, but they differ in that they have a definite end, as in a novel, unlike soap operas. Wikipedia says they are also popular in Filipino, Portuguese and Latin American programming.
