SABATTUS — The January meeting of the Sabattus Seniors has been canceled due to unforeseen circumstances. The next meeting will be in February.

Cribbage league winners named

Breakfast aids student programs

LEWISTON — A breakfast will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Green Ladle building at Lewiston High School, 156 East Ave. The cost is $10 per guest.

The menu includes a made-to-order omelet bar, cinnamon bun French toast, fresh corned beef hash, fruit salad, home fries, sausage and bacon, muffins and quick breads, and the beverages include coffee, tea and assorted juices. All proceeds from the event go to helping student organizations at LRTC such as Future Business Leaders of America and Skills USA.

History Barn Open House

NEW GLOUCESTER — The monthly New Gloucester History Barn Open House will be held on Saturday, Jan. 5, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The feature this month is the recent acquisition of a 5-foot circular saw blade that belonged to the Blake/Stinchfield family, one of New Gloucester’s founding families. Other items from the family will also be on display.

The History Barn is on Route 231 behind the New Gloucester Town Hall.

Fortier Chapter/Council

Dempsey Center exercise workshop

LEWISTON —  The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering a free exercise series for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. Move and Stretch will be offered Tuesdays, Jan. 8 through Feb. 26 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.

Studies suggest that cancer survivors who exercise regularly may feel better, have less fatigue and experience fewer symptoms after treatment, compared to those who do not get regular exercise.

Through fun and gentle movement, wellness educator Marcy Covey and yoga and fitness instructor Tish Caldwell will help participants move toward improved balance, strength and flexibility. Come once, or every week. The program is for all fitness levels.

Living Beyond Cancer program

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering a free program for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. Living Beyond Cancer will take place Wednesday, Jan. 9, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.

Dr. Nicholette Erickson, director of Central Maine Medical Center’s Comprehensive Cancer Center, will address some of the common issues cancer survivors face including fatigue, motivation to move more and return to daily activities, stress management and the need for support from others who have shared your experience.

Civil War Round Table Lecture

BRUNSWICK — The Joshua L. Chamberlain Civil War Round Table Lecture will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Curtis Memorial Library, Morrell Room, 23 Pleasant St. The speaker will be Mike Nugent, discussing “Sixth U.S. Calvary: Fight at Fairfield, Pa.”
