LEWISTON — Mark Demidovich will perform classical piano selections and Dr. David Jardine, an audiologist, will give a talk as part of La Rencontre on Friday, Jan. 4, at the Franco-American Heritage Center.

An audiologist at CMMC’s Central Maine Hearing Center, Jardine will discuss how to “Improve Your Life by Improving Your Hearing.” He will talk about a new hearing loop system being installed at the Franco Center to enhance the audio experience for hearing-impaired audience members.

Jardine was previously director of the Hearing & Balance Center at the University of the Pacific. He has published several papers on hearing loss and tinnitus, and has served on the American Academy of Audiology Government Relations Board. He sits on the Audiology Advisory Council of the American Speech Language Hearing Association.

After Jardine’s talk, Demidovich will perform works by Chopin, Rachmaninov and Liszt. Demidovich, who hails from Kostroma, Russia, will also perform in February at Carnegie Hall in New York as a finalist in the Forte International Piano Competition and a participant in the New York Concert Artists Debut Recitals.

A graduate of the Saratov Conservatory,  Demidovich studies at Long Island Conservatory. He has presented solo recitals and performed with orchestras in Russia and the United States. He performed at the Franco Center luncheon last March.

Patrons are encouraged to speak only French during the monthly luncheon served at 11:30 p.m. in Heritage Hall (accessed from the Oxford Street side of the building).

On the menu is roast pork with gravy, scalloped potatoes, rolls, braised carrots, and an eclair for dessert. Cost is $7 per person. Reservations may be made by calling the Franco Center at 46 Cedar St. at 783-1585 by Jan. 3.
