100 years ago, 1913
The Progressives have given up the idea of putting a ticket in the Lewiston city election net spring, but in all probability will have a ticket in Auburn. The leaders of the party in this section are highly disgusted at the position taken by the Progressive members of the Legislature and freely admit that it was another case of the stream roller in its work. “But,” said a Lewiston Progressive, “the end is not yet. It seems strange that men who pretended to be real Progressives and who had affiliated themselves with the State organization, should have showed ‘yellow’ at the vital stage of the game. We are glad to know their make-up. We don’t want any yellow ones in our party and it is apparent they don’t want to stay.”

50 years ago, 1963
The Crimson Lancers color guard of Auburn leaves tonight for Baltimore, Md., to compete tomorrow night in the junior color guard world championships. Traveling by chartered bus, the Lancers will be one of the 25 units from 10 states to participate in the event at the Fifth Regiment Armory. The 22 members of the Lancers will be accompanied by Robert Couture, director, and his wife.

25 years ago, 1988
Elude Collin and his sons, Charles, 23, and Steve, 20, rescued a deer Monday after spotting it from the roadway laying spread eagle on the ice Androscoggin River. They spotted the fawn early in the morning while traveling along Route 136 to their construction jobs in Yarmouth. While returning to Lewiston around 11 a.m., they again saw the deer and decided to rescue it. The animal was taken to the Gray Game Farm.
