ANSWER: There appear to be numerous sources for the skirting you seek. Online, mobilehomepartsstore.com, mobilehomeadvantage.com and www.skirtingdirect.com have lots of choices.

Lowe’s has a brick-look skirting advertised online and may have other choices as well.

There are undoubtedly local sources as well. Hopefully they will write to Sun Spots and let her know.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Having been born on Dec. 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor and the American flag have always been a part of my birthday. Perhaps that’s why I enjoyed the flags that flew among the trees as I drove across the bridge from Center Street in Auburn to Main Street in Lewiston.

The flags are no longer there. Can you find out what happened to them? Who was the person who put them up? I miss them. Your column is a treasure to all. Thanks so very much. — Maryann, norc@roadrunner.com

ANSWER: Sun Spots was told that a Lewiston fireman, “Buzz” Metayer, installed those flags. He is retired, and Sun Spots was unable to contact him.

ANSWER: There are still a few used bookstores in the region that may be able to help. You can also buy used books online very cheaply. There are also website translation services you can utilize.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Dec. 20 I was doing a boot run for Christmas for Families in Bethel. I was at the Oxford Walmart, which was quite busy. I was chatting with a man in line in front of me about the Christmas for Families program.

Unknown to me, he left money with the cashier to help with the boot payment. When she checked me out, she told me that he had left money.

Each year it seems like people are so generous about helping others. I don’t know the man’s name but want to thank him and all of the other kind people who helped Christmas for Families serve more than 200 children in 2012. — Leslie Cooley, loonlodgemaine@gmail.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for your help a year ago. I asked for fabric and yarn to use for a group in Florida that I work with. We make and fill ditty bags for the troops. In these bags are many items, but this time of year the best item is the skull caps the troops wear under their helmets.

I had a great response from readers and also found a man (retired military from Oxford) who will make as many caps as I can get the yarn for.

If anyone has any dark-colored yarn that is sitting around, I would love to pick it up. I will deliver it to him and ship the skull caps to Florida. I will pick up anywhere.
