FARMINGTON — John Gilmore Edgerly, 76, passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, at his home in Farmington.

He was born May 1, 1936, in Robbinston, the first son of Carroll D. and Annie (Gilmore) Edgerly. He was raised and educated in Kingfield and graduated from Kingfield High School in 1954. He continued his education at Husson College, where he earned a B.S. and later earned an MPA from the University of Maine at Orono.

On June 18, 1960, he married MaryEllen Small in Needham Heights, Mass. His professional life was spent as a municipal administrator serving the towns of Groveton, N.H., Winthrop, Augusta and Farmington and the state of Maine Bureau of Public Improvements.

John was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed reading about military history. He also enjoyed playing golf and refurbishing antique automobiles.

He will be remembered for his concern for and contributions to his community.

He is survived by his wife, MaryEllen; two sons, Robert and his wife, Susan and Richard and his wife, Dawn; three grandchildren, Andrea, Jacob and Daniel; a special nephew, Ronald, and several cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, Wade and David.
