1966 – 2013

LEWISTON — Dawn Marie Trenholm, 46, of Monmouth passed away Friday, Jan. 11, at Central Maine Medical Center with her loving family at her side following a short but courageous battle with lung cancer.

Dawn was born in Jamaica Plain, Mass., on June 7, 1966, daughter of Edward and Beverly (Couras) Phillips. The family moved to Monmouth later in that year and has been part of the fabric of this wonderful community since that time.

Dawn was a 1984 graduate of Monmouth Academy, where she was member of the Monmouth Academy 1984 Cross Country State Championship team. Dawn also attended Hesser College in Manchester, N.H., and completed a number of courses at Husson University.

Dawn was also a devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church of Winthrop.

Dawn met her husband, Chris, on a fateful night in October 1986 during game six of the Red Sox vs. Mets World Series. They were married June 3, 1988, at their close friends Pat and Tina Duplessis’ residence in South Gardiner. Then residing in Monmouth where she and Chris devotedly raised their three sons.

Dawn was an avid sports enthusiast and could be seen and lovingly heard supporting her sons at soccer, tennis and basketball games throughout their middle and high school careers. She loved the Red Sox and Patriots and found great joy in their success.

Dawn was a tireless wife, mother, daughter, aunt, friend and co-worker. She realized her career goals as a long time school secretary at Leeds Central School and customer service representative for L.L. Bean at their Lewiston location.

She always found time to be involved in, or organize an event, whether it was a graduation or birthday celebration, a sports banquet for her sons, senior pictures of the “crew” or one of the many homecoming “garage” breakfasts at her residence, coaching a youth sports team and also a member of the Monmouth Sports Boosters. Her passion for the things she loved was always evident and never wavering. You never wondered where Dawn stood on any issue.

Dawn did find time to relax and enjoy life and would annually go to Baxter State Park camping with her “Bean buddies” and in recent years climbing Mount Katahdin. She loved kayaking and her morning walks with her mother, spending time swimming in the pool and attending sporting events and dance recitals with her special nieces, Macey and Hannah, and traveling out of state to different Red Sox games in Toronto and Baltimore.

Dawn is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, Chris; their three sons, Patrick Trenholm, Nathan Trenholm and Nicholas Trenholm, all of Monmouth; her parents Edward and Beverly Phillips of Monmouth; her brothers, Eddie Phillips and his partner, Ernesto Padro-Campos, of San Francisco, Bobby Phillips and his wife, Jody, and daughter, Emily, of Sparta, Wisc., Jim Phillips of Monmouth and his daughters, Macey and Hannah Phillips, and their brother, Dalton Black, of Industry; and her many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins throughout Maine and New England.

Dawn was predeceased by her younger brother, Thomas Phillips.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks and gratitude to her extended family, the community of Monmouth, Leeds Central School, L.L. Bean buddies, CMMC and the M-1 staff, Dr. Erickson and her staff and all who have touched Dawn’s life in her support over the past few months. Your thoughtfulness and kindness will always be cherished.
