JAY — A Livermore Falls teenager died Monday of injuries from a car crash on Hyde Road on Sunday, police Chief Larry White Sr. said.

Megan Baril, 17, died at about 11 a.m. Monday at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, White said Monday afternoon after talking to the medical examiner.

The driver, Alyssa Lamontagne, 17, of Livermore Falls and another passenger, Sheila Jordan, 16, also of Livermore Falls, were transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington with non-life-threatening injuries, White said. He believed they were treated and released.

The three girls — Baril was the front-seat passenger — were in a 1998 Chevrolet sedan when Lamontagne lost control of it.

“It went into a snowbank, traveling off the roadway and struck a utility pole, snapping the pole in half,” White said. The car hit the pole on the driver’s side.

Baril was not in a seat belt and was thrown from the front seat to the back seat, he said.

Lamontagne was wearing a seat belt. It was unclear if Jordan was, he said.

Speed appears to be a factor in the accident, White said. The vehicle is impounded and will be examined as the investigation continues. A report will be sent to the District Attorney’s Office for a review for possible criminal charges, he said.

Adams and Maine State Trooper Aaron Turcotte, an accident reconstructionist, are investigating the accident.

A blood alcohol test was taken from the driver, which is routine in all serious accidents, White said.

Jay Fire Rescue Department closed Hyde Road for approximately two-and-a-half hours until the accident was cleared and power lines were restored. White and Jay officers, Mike Mejia and Cpl. Jeffrey Fournier also assisted at the scene.
