LEWISTON — Leonile N. “Nel” Carrier, 83, of Auburn, passed away Monday, Jan. 21, at St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion.

He was born in Lewiston, Feb. 16, 1929, son of the late Eleodore and Marie Blanche McKeone Carrier. He was educated in local schools, graduating from St. Dominic High School in 1948. He furthered his education and attained a management degree at Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute in Auburn.

Nel proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was married Sept. 13, 1952 to Noella Labonte.

Nel was employed at The Carpet Center in Lewiston and later as assistant manager at Lewiston Hardware Co. When the hardware store closed he went to work for Marcotte Furniture World then later did courier work at NorthEast Bank.

He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at Holy Family Church, Knights of Columbus Council 106 and the Wallace Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 10 of Livermore Falls and the Forty and Eight Club. Nel enjoyed sports, especially the Boston Red Sox and the Patriots.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Noella of Auburn; a daughter, Jeanne Sample and husband, Steven, of Burnsville, Minn.; two grandsons, William of Newport, Va., and Jeremy of Burnsville, Minn.; three great-grandchildren, Ryden, Briggs and Alisa Sample; a sister, Annette Pelletier of Auburn; two brothers, Bernard “Bernie” Carrier and wife, Shirley, of Lewiston and Julien Carrier and wife, Eliza, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.
