Each fall 13 Sam’s Italian Sandwich Shops participate in a fundraising effort in support of their community food pantries. Customers are invited to donate $1 to help end hunger. This year, Sam’s on Sabattus Street in Lewiston raised the largest amount and gave it to St. Mary’s Health System’s Food Pantry. At a ceremony in January, a plaque noting the store’s achievement was presented by Joyce Gagnon, center, manager of St. Mary’s Food Pantry, to Andy Morin, left, Sam’s district manager, and David MacArthur, right, Sam’s store manager. Working together Team Sam’s, Sparetime Rec, Flagship Cinemas and Sam’s customers contributed almost $6,000 to local food pantries.
